Do I need a boating license?

It depends on the boat. For engines with output greater than 25 hp, or boats over 8 metres (26.25 ft), operators born on or after 1 January 1980 must hold a boating licence. Note the thresholds are 'greater than' — exactly 25 hp does not require one. You confirm the licence at booking and are responsible for it being valid. If you choose a boat with a skipper, no licence is needed.

How do I pick up the boat?

After a confirmed booking, the host shares the exact meeting point. You meet at the dock, the host gives a brief walkthrough of the boat and safety equipment, and you're ready to go.

What if the weather turns bad?

Safety first. If conditions become too rough, the trip can be cancelled in agreement with the host — our cancellation policy applies, and for host or weather cancellations you receive a full refund.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Each listing has a cancellation policy (flexible, moderate, or strict) shown before you book. Refunds are calculated automatically based on that policy.

What does it cost to list my boat?

Nothing to get started. Sailfloat charges a 12% service fee per booking — you keep 88% of the rental income.

Do I control my own pricing and calendar?

Yes, completely. You set a price per day, block dates you want to use the boat yourself, and can choose to approve every request manually.

Is my boat insured?

Not yet. Booking has not opened, and we have no insurance agreement to point to until it is signed. Our aim is for cover to follow each booking when we launch. Until then you must clear rental with your own insurer — see the insurance page for what actually applies today.

When do I get paid?

Payment is sent automatically to your account approximately 24 hours after the trip is completed.

How do I pay?

With Vipps or a debit/credit card. The rental fee is charged upon confirmation, and the deposit is pre-authorized (reserved) on the same payment method.

What is the difference between a deposit and a deductible?

The deposit is a reservation that is released automatically when the boat is returned in good condition. The deductible is the amount you pay in the event of a covered claim — it may be deducted from the deposit.

When is the deposit released?

Normally within 1–3 business days after the trip is completed and the host has confirmed that everything is in order.

How do I know the host is genuine?

All profiles will be verified with BankID at launch, and you can see real reviews from previous renters before you book.

Call the helpline listed on your booking — it is staffed around the clock during the season. Ensure people's safety first, then document and report the incident.
