Where should I go by boat in Lofoten?
Henningsvær and Reine are the most iconic fishing villages, the Trollfjord offers a narrow and dramatic fjord arm, and Nusfjord is a preserved old fishing village. All with peaks plunging straight into the sea.
Is the water in Lofoten safe for the inexperienced?
Inside the islands it's often sheltered, but Lofoten is exposed to rough weather and the Vestfjord can get heavy. Stay close to shore, check the forecast carefully, and save longer trips for calmer days.
Do I need a boating licence to rent a boat in Lofoten?
It depends on the boat and on the country you will be sailing in — the rules are not the same in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. When we open, every listing will state whether the boat requires a licence, and you are responsible for holding what is required where you are. How much does it cost to rent a boat in Lofoten?
The price is set by each owner and varies with boat type, size and season. When we open, the aim is that you see the total including the fee before you confirm — today you cannot book anything here.
Is the boat insured when I rent in Lofoten?
Sailfloat provides no insurance. The rental agreement is between owner and renter, and the boat is covered by the owner's own policy — renting out for payment is often excluded from ordinary leisure-boat insurance, so the owner must have cleared it with their insurer.
How do I get to the boat in Lofoten without a car?
When we open, every listing will give the exact pickup point, not just the place name. Check how you get there — and back by the agreed time — before choosing a boat: some docks are in the city centre, others need a car. If in doubt, ask the owner before booking.
