Rent a boat in Tromsø

You're in the middle of an Arctic realm of islands — Kvaløya, Sommarøy and Ersfjord with peaks rising straight from the sea. In summer you can be out under the midnight sun, in winter beneath the northern lights.

In winter (November to January) herring and whales gather in the fjords around Tromsø, and there are good chances of seeing orcas and humpbacks. But this is the polar night, in cold and demanding waters: choose a boat with a skipper unless you have winter experience in Arctic seas. In summer the midnight sun and calm fjord trips take over instead.

It depends on the boat and on the country you will be sailing in — the rules are not the same in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. When we open, every listing will state whether the boat requires a licence, and you are responsible for holding what is required where you are. The price is set by each owner and varies with boat type, size and season. When we open, the aim is that you see the total including the fee before you confirm — today you cannot book anything here.

Sailfloat provides no insurance. The rental agreement is between owner and renter, and the boat is covered by the owner's own policy — renting out for payment is often excluded from ordinary leisure-boat insurance, so the owner must have cleared it with their insurer.

When we open, every listing will give the exact pickup point, not just the place name. Check how you get there — and back by the agreed time — before choosing a boat: some docks are in the city centre, others need a car. If in doubt, ask the owner before booking.
