Questions and answers about renting a boat in Limfjorden
How does the Limfjord change from west to east?
In the west it meets the North Sea at Thyborøn, the central section crosses broad basins and sounds around Mors and Fur, and in the east it opens into the Kattegat at Hals. A single route can therefore pass through very different coastal and wind conditions.
Is the Limfjord like a Norwegian fjord?
Not in shape. The Limfjord is a low-lying, shallow waterway across Jutland, without the steep mountainsides and great depths of many Norwegian fjords; its broad basins also give the wind more room to work.
Do I need a boating licence to rent a boat in Limfjorden?
It depends on the boat and on the country you will be sailing in — the rules are not the same in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. When we open, every listing will state whether the boat requires a licence, and you are responsible for holding what is required where you are. How much does it cost to rent a boat in Limfjorden?
The price is set by each owner and varies with boat type, size and season. When we open, the aim is that you see the total including the fee before you confirm — today you cannot book anything here.
Is the boat insured when I rent in Limfjorden?
Sailfloat provides no insurance. The rental agreement is between owner and renter, and the boat is covered by the owner's own policy — renting out for payment is often excluded from ordinary leisure-boat insurance, so the owner must have cleared it with their insurer.
How do I get to the boat in Limfjorden without a car?
When we open, every listing will give the exact pickup point, not just the place name. Check how you get there — and back by the agreed time — before choosing a boat: some docks are in the city centre, others need a car. If in doubt, ask the owner before booking.
