Rent a boat in Bohuslän
Bohuslän is the coast north of Gothenburg, running all the way to the Norwegian border: bare granite worn smooth by the ice, thousands of islets and skerries, and water shallow enough to be worth swimming in by August. Renting a boat is the only way to reach the islands the passenger ferries do not serve.

Questions and answers about renting a boat in Bohuslän
How does Bohuslän differ from the Norwegian coast?
The mountains are missing. Bohuslän is low, open granite without fjords to block the wind, so you feel the weather sooner than inside a Norwegian fjord arm. In return the archipelago is denser, and there is shelter behind an islet almost wherever you are.
Can I moor anywhere?
The right of public access applies from the water too, but it does not extend to private jetties or to landing in gardens and farmyards. Natural harbours are what you are after — and there is no shortage of them.
Do I need a boating licence to rent a boat in Bohuslän?
It depends on the boat and on the country you will be sailing in — the rules are not the same in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. When we open, every listing will state whether the boat requires a licence, and you are responsible for holding what is required where you are. If you are sailing in Norway, our guide explains the Norwegian rules with sources.
How much does it cost to rent a boat in Bohuslän?
The price is set by each owner and varies with boat type, size and season. When we open, the aim is that you see the total including the fee before you confirm — today you cannot book anything here.
Is the boat insured when I rent in Bohuslän?
Sailfloat provides no insurance. The rental agreement is between owner and renter, and the boat is covered by the owner's own policy — renting out for payment is often excluded from ordinary leisure-boat insurance, so the owner must have cleared it with their insurer.
How do I get to the boat in Bohuslän without a car?
When we open, every listing will give the exact pickup point, not just the place name. Check how you get there — and back by the agreed time — before choosing a boat: some docks are in the city centre, others need a car. If in doubt, ask the owner before booking.
